So, Day One.
I was awake at 5.36 convinced my alarm would not go off. Was then half asleep but finally decided at 6.50 that I should stay awake in case my alarm didn’t go off. At 7am my alarm went off.
Rachel picked me up at 8.20am and we picked up Ollie, our Techie, also a new volunteer. Went into the office which is a unit on an industrial site on the outskirts of Basildon. Had a tour around the office, met all the lovely people and my desk. Had a prayer meeting with the rest of the people in the office from 9.30-10am. Then Rachel (my lovely acting team leader and fellow actress) went through the diary for Sept-Nov with me and Ollie. Ollie then went off to The Barn (an apparently amazing place I am yet to see with random sculptures in the grounds) for techie stuff and I stayed at my desk with Rachel to start learning lines.
Let me set the scene of my desk for you:

My Desk
It squeaks when I write and everytime I put my cup down there are metallic reverberations but its great! Rachel’s Desk is to my right and opposite us are Ollie and Dave’s (team leader) desks. This is the Envizage area, to the top right of the picture is Taste’s area who are the band which we will be working with. We are upstairs in the Hot/Cold room.
The other most amazing thing about my desk is my stationery:
How can anything possibly go wrong when you have a bright pink holepunch?
So the rest of the day was learning lines, I got through 3 scripts which apparently was quite impressive! Ate lunch in the Fika Area…Swedish for ‘to drink coffee’, drank lots of tea and generally had fun!
Diary is looking full already with our first event on Saturday in Southend, very exciting!
Got back around 5.30pm and have had a relaxing evening chatting with my fabulous hosts Beth and Stephen Powney who are truly lovely lovely people and making me feel so welcome and comfortable. Enjoyed some very tasty homemade apple pie which is always good! Thanks to Stephen for setting my up on the internet…things are never straightforward with me and my laptop!
Tomorrow is more line learning and rehearsals which is good!
My ‘achievement’ of the day was being called overconfident and cocky by Clive, amazing, never have those words been used to describe me before!
